Click on the image on at left to download and play a video [296 Kb] of an "interesting" maneuver at the lip. Clark flies the BlueBlue through this strange gyration. The clip starts with the model over the plateau down low, beneath the shear boundary. Clark flies right to the lip, then pulls up hard in typical DS style. The model climbs steeply, passing through the shear boundary into the free stream head wind for an increase in airspeed. It quickly runs out of its new found airspeed while climbing vertically, and backs up over the ground in the free stream head wind. A stall finally takes over as the nose drops and the model dives back through the shear boundary. Once out of the free stream, it picks up ground speed again, crossing the shear boundary over the lip, and accelerating upward back out into liftville.
